Born and raised in Porto, with a piece of Minho and Lisbon, Catarina Almada sings the Fado as she is. For 8 years she lived in Lisbon, where she explored the music universe and ended up falling madly in love with Fado. She now returns to Porto with the mission of bringing her experiences and her Fado to the north and the world.

BIOGRAPHY

Born and raised in Porto, with a piece of Minho and Lisbon, Catarina Almada sings the Fado as she is.

For 8 years she lived in Lisbon, where she explored the music universe and ended up falling madly in love with Fado. She now returns to Porto with the mission of bringing her experiences and her Fado to the North and the world.

In Lisbon, she is a regular guest singer in numerous places, such as Casa da Mariquinhas and Mesa de Frades, always accompanied by the most recognized musicians in the field, with whom she has learned a lot – Jaime Santos, Dinis Lavos, Pedro de Castro, Joel Pina, Bernardo Romão and friends like Maria João Quadros, João Braga, Matilde Cid Marçal and the Marialvas are some of them…

For 3 years she was trained in the Hotclube of Portugal, where she distanced herself from Fado and learned the essence of Jazz. In Catarina’s opinion, Fado has a lot from Jazz and vice-versa, while both have their own songbook. She takes this learning from Jazz and brings it to her Fado. A great friend, Mico da Câmara Pereira, gave her strength and a stage to perform! José Cid also invited her to take part in a concert – Acid Jazz – where they sang “Cheek to Cheek”.

In 2012, Catarina appeared on the big screen as a finalist for Portuguese “Idol”, achieving the 7th place. Afterwards, she followed a path of discovery between lusophony, music creation and original projects in various fields. Fado has always been whispering and calling for her. She went on a tour through China representing Portuguese culture, where she sang to the elite at The Venitian Macao Resort Hotel, at sky 21 Bar, at the Portuguese Consulate in Macau and also at the Portuguese Embassy in Beijing.
